Mothers for Mothers News

From our Director: I am delighted to announced on behalf of Mothers for Mothers that BBC Children in Need has awarded us a grant to help fund two of our support groups for Mothers who are suffering from Post Natal Illness and help make a difference to the lives of disadvantaged children right here in Bristol.

Our support groups provide a safe place for Mothers suffering with Post Natal illness, anxiety, depression or isolation to come along with their babies and children, talk about how they feel with others who understand, gain support and make social connections.

Mothers for Mothers runs weekly drop-in support groups for women and their children in Barton Hill and Bedminster. At each group there are support workers to talk with the mums, offering support, information and advice with an experienced play worker who helps to look after and provides activities for the babies and children.

The grant from Children in Need will enable Mothers for Mothers to continue to run these two groups in Bristol.

I know from my own personal experience and from the experiences of the many families we work with that the support groups can be a vital tool in a Mothers recovery from Post Natal Illness. These groups give Mothers the opportunity to make supportive friendships which last for years which in turn enables their children to socialise and form friendships. Without the support of BBC Children in Need we could not continue to run these groups and this grant will go on to change the lives of many children and give them and their family the support they need.

BBC Children in Need funding relies on the energy and commitment of thousands of fundraisers and supporters across the UK who donate their time and money to support the Appeal. Whether it’s cake sales, wearing pyjamas to school or having a song and dance, every penny of the money raised goes towards supporting projects across the UK. So on Friday please get up, dress up, go out and do whatever you can to raise money!
Thank you to our extremely hard working team of staff and volunteers and thank you to BBC Children in Need.

Please share this great news with your friends to ensure that any families that may need our support know we are here. Thank you.

In December 2014 we held a family fun day at Kings Weston House, to raise some much needed funds for the charity.

People from all over Bristol and the local area responded with their support, by donating some wonderful raffle prizes, baking cakes and vitally by spreading the word of the work we do. Support continued into 2015 with donations to our Local Giving page exceeding £6000 in the weeks following the event. We are so very thankful for this generosity which means many women continue to benefit from our groups, counselling services and helpline.

As we look forward to 2016 we hope that we can help many more women towards their recovery.
